Here are some comments about The Loose Caboose Band’s 2008 CD, “Mighty Big Broom” (which made it onto the 51st Grammy Awards first round ballot in two categories—Best Children’s Album and Best CD Packaging!):
Brothers Bill Carey and Joe Carey are back with a second CD of kid-pleasing original songs, from “My Very First Haircut” to “Legoland” and “Wake Up Sleepy Daddy.” The brothers use a variety of instruments and styles, from pop to jazz to country and blues on the 14-track CD.

I had a car filled with 10-11 year old boys yesterday when I announced the surprise that we had music none of them had heard yet. I said we’d be rating the best songs and that I would have the “results” sent to the composers. You both have resounding and consistent ‘thumbs ups’ from a rather difficult audience. The car rocked with movement when it should have, but more impressively, they commented on the lyrics as being “quite clever”! (The “Lego” song really struck a chord.) Well done on an excellent job… a stunning new release.

Five stars. Two thumbs up. Four years in the making, and the brothers Carey (Loose Caboose Band), have hit it out of the park. Took Ma, both Grandmas, and a couple of cookies to make the first haircut go smooth; took Joe & Bill Carey to render everyday happenings into full blown slices of sweet family life.

I was swept away… I’m a big fan of GORP [Good Old Raisins and Peanuts]… so glad that someone has finally made a song about it!

My favorite song… is “Ridin’ on the Gravy Train” because of its jazzy/blues style… I will send the CD on to my daughter… in Los Angeles. She and her husband have two sons, age 3 and 6. I suspect they might enjoy the songs a great deal.

I enjoyed the CD (particularly “Climbing on Daddy Mountain” and “My Very First Haircut”). You have a simple/naive style that gives you a direct line to kids under five… Mr. Rogers comes to mind, but you have more humor and fun… It’s very clear you know a lot about children.

Our favorites are “Climbing on Daddy Mountain” and “My Very First Haircut”—the world needs more happy songs like these! The “Haircut Song,” as we call it, is one of those songs that just keeps running through your head and you can’t help but sing it out loud! “Loose Caboose” brings a smile to your face! Keep up the good work!

I loved the CD. Especially enjoyed “Superior Officer” and “Without You Kid”… Nice instrumentation. Great job packaging the disk, too!

Your “Mighty Big Broom” CD is a Christmas present for my grandchildren. I am sure they will love it, as I really enjoyed the excerpts that I was able to hear on CDbaby.com before purchasing.
